This form will take you through the steps to have your story submitted for inclusion into the Event Horizon anthology. The first step is to confirm your eligibility for the Campbell Award.

 
Please read the following carefully. The below are the guidelines for defining a professional publication in regards to the Campbell Award. We will be referring to this as we ask subsequent questions about your eligibility. *

What counts as a qualifying professional work?

Any work of fiction in the science fiction or fantasy genres (SF/F) sold for a nominal amount and published in a qualifying publication.

Which publications qualify?

Any publication meeting one of the following criteria:

Copy print run of at least 10,000
Qualifying publication by SFWA
Publications which have a nominal pay rate of  6c/word with a minimum of $50 total. 
A published work of fiction of a minimum of 40,000 words either sold to a small press or self-published for which the author can demonstrate net income of at least $3,000 within one year.  Income can be in the form of advance, royalties, or some combination thereof.

What does not count as a qualifying work?

Works in non-qualifying publications.
Poetry, even if it is SF/F and appears in a qualifying publication.
Non-fiction, even if it is SF/F and appears in a qualifying publication.
Fiction outside the SF/F genres.
Fan writing of any sort.
Letters to the editor.
Vanity press or self-published fiction for which the author is not paid, even if the print run is over 10,000.
Writing for SF/F games.

The following is a legal contract between Shirtsleeve Press and you. Please read it carefully. We are looking for very limited rights, but these are still rights you are giving us. *

This publishing agreement is effective {{answer_44469042}}, between {{answer_44469057}}, herein called the Author, and Shirtsleeve Press, S.P., herein called the Publisher, for {{answer_44468491}} herein called the Work. The Work is to be published in the Event Horizon anthology, herein called the Anthology.

The Author, or on behalf of heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assignees, grants the following non-exclusive worldwide English language rights to the Publisher to produce, publish, and distribute in e-book and print formats, including digital text-based media designed for mobile, desktop, e-reader, or other devices. These rights include all print formats, including and not limited to paperback and hardback books of all sizes. These are global rights. Author hereby retains all rights to the work not specifically granted to the Publisher in this contract such as movie rights, non-English language, audio rights, and rights to derivative works. 

These right are only granted between the dates of {{answer_44469042}}and 07/15/2017, at which point these rights expire, and distribution of the Work in the Anthology must cease and all rights revert to the Author.

Distribution of the Anthology will be free for all ebook formats, with distribution limited as outlined below. Distribution of the print book will be at the discretion of the Publisher, with the cost to readers set at the cost to the Publisher, with costs defined as printing and distribution fees levied by third party printers and book storefronts and distributors. Author understands that there may not be a print version of the book released, although Publisher promises to make a best faith effort to do so.

Publisher will distribute the ebook version of the Anthology in epub and mobi format via a third party or Publisher-owned site. Publisher will distribute the ebook at no charge but may require readers to provide their names and email addresses in exchange for the Anthology. Author may distribute copies of the Anthology to friends and acquaintances, but may not distribute the Anthology publicly.

The print version of the Anthology, if released, will be published via CreateSpace, with distribution limited to the CreateSpace storefront to reduce costs. 

The Author hereby represents and warrants to the Publisher the following:

1. She/he (they are) is the creator and sole owner of the work, or has been assigned exclusive rights to the work.
2. The work is original and no part of the work was taken from or based on any other literary, dramatic, musical, film, or graphic arts, except as identified in the writing by the Author.
3. The work does not infringe upon any copyright, privacy rights, rights of a third party, or any common law or statutory law.
4. The work does not contain any material of a libelous or obscene nature.
5. The work is not in the public domain, and has not been published in any format with any company that may still own such rights to the work.
6. The Author holds the power of Authority to grant these rights.
7. If a judgment is obtained against the Publisher for usurping rights still controlled by a Publisher or other entity other than the Publisher or the Author, the Author agrees to hold the Publisher harmless and to indemnify the Publisher for damages and costs. If the Publisher prevails against a suing party or resolves the matter by an out-of-court settlement, the Author will be liable to indemnify the Publisher for defense and settlement cost.
8. Author Agrees to hold Publisher harmless and indemnify the Publisher against any claim, demand, action, suit, proceeding or any expense whatsoever, arising for claims of infringement of copyright or proprietary rights, or claims of libel, obscenity, invasion of privacy, or any other unlawfulness based upon or arising from the publication or any matter pertaining to the work.
